Group of 150 Mormons Gather to Leave the Church

July 2, 2012 9:43 AM PT

On Saturday, Jun 30, 2012, a group of Mormons in Salt Lake City to scale the mountain where Mormon president, Brigham Young, declared "This is the place" Mormons should settle in 1847. They were there to sign a "Declaration of Independence from Mormonism" and collectively resign from the Mormon church.

Although 150 people is not that many, it is nice to see people stand up en masse (and get some national publicity) for how they feel about the Mormon church. I am sure we will hear more about Mormonism in the media as the Presidential election get's closer.

As a former Mormon myself, it irks me when hearing the Mormon church's statistics about the 14.4 million members and knowing that technically I am still on the roster.

That may change soon, however. . .

The Big Bang Didn't Need God to Start Universe, and Science can Prove it!

June 24, 2012 11:36 AM PT

Our universe could have popped into existence 13.7 billion years ago without any divine help whatsoever.

"The Big Bang could've occurred as a result of just the laws of physics being there," said astrophysicist"Alex Filippenko of the University of California, Berkeley. "With the laws of physics, you can get universes."

Fillippenko, ever the cautious one (and who appears regularly on the History Channel's excellent The Universe program and also recently on Nova) says,   "I don't think you can use science to either prove or disprove the existence of God."

How about the existence or unicorns?
